SafePC · Share photos with family

Find a photo you were sent

Find a photo you saved from an email in Downloads, copy it to Pictures and open it in Photos.

10 steps · about 5 minutes · practice it with SafePC Pro

Step by step

  1. Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
  2. Click "File Explorer". In the menu that opened, click the "File Explorer" tile (a square with a small picture and its name under it): the app opens in its own window.
  3. Open "Downloads". In the column on the left of the File Explorer window (the list of your places), click "Downloads". The big area on the right then shows what is inside that folder.
  4. Click once on the photo you received. Everything you save from an email or a website lands in Downloads. Click once on the photo "sunday-cookout.jpg", the one Emily sent you.
  5. Click "Copy". On the top bar, click the "Copy" button (two sheets on top of each other). You keep the photo in Downloads and make a second one in Pictures.
  6. Open "Pictures". In the column on the left of the File Explorer window (the list of your places), click "Pictures". The big area on the right then shows what is inside that folder.
  7. Click "Paste". Click the "Paste" button (the clipboard): the photo is now in Pictures, with your other photos.
  8. Double-click the photo. Double-click "sunday-cookout.jpg" in the list: it opens in the Photos app.
  9. Close this window. You are done with this window, so close it: click the ✕ button at the top right corner of the "Photos" window (on its title bar, the strip at the top). The window disappears.
  10. Close this window. You are done with this window, so close it: click the ✕ button at the top right corner of the "File Explorer" window (on its title bar, the strip at the top). The window disappears.

These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.

Practice it where nothing can break

SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
