How can we help?

Simple answers to the questions we hear most. Can't find yours? Email us and a real person will answer.

Getting started

How do I start?

Go to My account and create a free account with your first name, your email and a password. Then open My dashboard and choose SafePhone (a practice phone) or SafePC (a practice computer). The first 5 lessons of each are free.

Where are the lessons?

Inside SafePhone, open the "Lessons" app. Inside SafePC, open "Exercises" from the taskbar at the bottom of the screen or from the Start menu. You can also read every lesson's steps on our free lessons pages before you practice.

Can I break something?

No. SafePhone and SafePC are pretend devices. Nothing you do there makes a real call, sends a real message or touches your real phone or computer. Try every button.

Where do I see my progress?

On My dashboard, when you are signed in: how many lessons you finished, your practice time, the next lesson to try and your certificates. Lessons count when you finish them while signed in.

Putting it on your phone or computer

Nothing needs to be installed: TryTechSafe works in your web browser. If you like, you can add it to your phone's home screen or your computer so it opens like an app.

On an Android phone (Chrome)
  1. Open safephone.trytechsafe.com in Chrome.
  2. Tap the menu button (three dots, at the top right).
  3. Tap Add to Home screen or Install app, then Install.

A TryTechSafe icon appears on your home screen.

On an iPhone or iPad (Safari)
  1. Open safephone.trytechsafe.com in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow pointing up).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
On a computer (Chrome or Edge)
  1. Open safepc.trytechsafe.com or safephone.trytechsafe.com.
  2. In the address bar, click the Install icon (a small screen with an arrow), or open the browser's menu and choose Install.
  3. Click Install. It now opens in its own window.
Which devices does it work on?

A computer, a tablet or a phone with an up-to-date web browser: Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. SafePC is easiest on a computer or a tablet with a keyboard; SafePhone works everywhere.

Signing in

How do I sign in to SafePhone or SafePC?

Use the same email and password as your TryTechSafe account. Open the practice device from My dashboard and type them on its sign-in screen.

I signed in on a new phone or computer, and the other one signed me out. Why?

Your account works on one device at a time. When you sign in on a new device, the previous one is signed out and shows a short message. This is normal. Your progress is saved: sign in again wherever you want to practice.

The same goes for SafePhone's two styles: the Android style and the iPhone style use the same account, so signing in on one signs you out of the other.

The same goes for SafePC's two styles: the Windows style and the Mac style use the same account, so signing in on one signs you out of the other.

Can two people share one account?

An account is for one person, and it works on one device at a time. Each person can create their own free account. To follow someone's lessons, they can share their progress with you.

Can my family follow my lessons?

Yes, if you want. In My account, under "Share my progress with a helper", create a private link and send it to them. They see which lessons you finished and can suggest new ones. They never see your email or payments. You can stop sharing at any time.

A forgotten password

I forgot my password. What do I do?
  1. Go to My account › Forgot your password? (on SafePhone's sign-in screen, the "Forgot your password?" link opens the same page).
  2. Type the email of your account and press the button.
  3. Open the email we send you and click Choose a new password.

The link works once, for 1 hour. If you don't see the email after a few minutes, look in your spam or junk folder.

The reset email never arrives

Check the spam or junk folder, and that you typed the email you signed up with. You can ask for a new link up to 3 times an hour. Still nothing? Email us from that address and we will help.

How do I see the password I am typing?

Every password box has a Show password button (an eye) on the right. Press it to see what you typed, and again to hide it.

Plans, cancelling and refunds

What does the free plan include?

The first 5 lessons of SafePhone and the first 5 of SafePC, and you can explore both practice devices. No card is needed. See the plans.

How do I cancel?
  1. Go to My account and sign in.
  2. Press Manage billing. It opens Stripe's secure page.
  3. Choose Cancel plan and confirm.

You keep every lesson until the end of the period you paid for, and you are not charged again. You can also email us and we will cancel it for you.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, for your first payment on a plan: if TryTechSafe isn't for you, email us within 14 days and we will refund it in full. The details are in our Terms.

How do I change my plan or my card?

In My account, press Manage billing. There you can switch plans, update your card and see your invoices.

Is my card safe?

Payments are made on Stripe's secure page. Your card number goes straight to Stripe and never reaches us.

Accessibility

Does TryTechSafe work with my screen reader?

It is built to: NVDA, JAWS and Narrator on Windows, VoiceOver on a Mac, iPhone or iPad, and TalkBack on Android. Our accessible edition page explains how to start, step by step. Some controls inside the practice devices may not yet be read as clearly as on this website: if one gets in your way, tell us and we will fix it first.

How do I make the text bigger?

On the website, use your browser's zoom (Ctrl and + on a computer, or pinch on a phone). In SafePhone, open Settings, then Display size and text (up to twice the normal size), or practice with the magnifier in Settings, then Accessibility. In SafePC, open Settings, then Accessibility, to make the text up to twice as big or turn on the magnifier, or use your browser's zoom.

Can I use the keyboard instead of the mouse or touch?

Yes. Every page and every lesson can be done with the keyboard. In SafePhone, Enter unlocks the phone, Alt + N opens the notifications and Alt + A shows all apps. In SafePC, Tab moves between items and F6 jumps to what the lesson asks you to use.

Can I practice using a screen reader?

Yes, with step-by-step "Screen reader" lessons. On SafePhone, turn on its practice screen reader in Settings, then Accessibility (first phone lesson). On SafePC, press Ctrl + Alt + Enter (first computer lesson).
