SafePhone · Screen reader

The volume-key shortcut

The volume-key shortcut: a short lesson in 4 steps.

4 steps · about 2 minutes · practice it with SafePhone Pro

Step by step

  1. Open "Settings" (the gray gear), tap "Accessibility", then tap "Screen reader".
  2. Turn on "Screen reader shortcut".
  3. On a real phone you hold BOTH volume keys for 3 seconds. Here: press and hold the Volume + button on the side for 3 seconds, then let go.
  4. Do it again (hold for 3 seconds) to turn it off.

These steps are written for SafePhone, a pretend Android-style smartphone in your web browser. On your own smartphone, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.

Practice it where nothing can break

SafePhone works like a real smartphone, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
