Organize your documents online (Practice Drive)
Open your online storage, create a folder and open a shared document.
Step by step
- Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
- Click "Browser". In the menu that opened, click the "Browser" tile (a square with a small picture and its name under it): the app opens in its own window.
- Go to drive.practice.example. Type "drive.practice.example" in the address bar then Enter: you land on Practice Drive.
- Click "+ New". Drive keeps your documents on the Internet, so you can open them from any computer. To make a folder (a box to keep documents together), click the white "+ New" button at the top left of the page.
- Create a "New folder". In the menu that just opened, click "📁 New folder". The new folder is created and opens right away: it is empty for now ("Drop files here"), and it is called "Untitled folder".
- Open "Shared with me". Now look at what other people sent you. In the column on the left, click "Shared with me": the list shows the documents Emily and Mike shared with you.
- Open Emily's potluck list. In the list, find the line "Potluck list — Sunday cookout" (owner: Emily Carter) and double-click it, that is click twice quickly on its name. The document opens in a new tab.
- Close this window. You are done with this window, so close it: click the ✕ button at the top right corner of the "Browser" window (on its title bar, the strip at the top). The window disappears.
These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.
Practice it where nothing can break
SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
