SafePC · Calculate and draw
Save your drawing
Draw, then save the picture in the Pictures folder.
Step by step
- Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
- Click "Draw". In the menu that opened, click the "Draw" tile (a square with a small picture and its name under it): the app opens in its own window.
- Choose the "Pencil". The ribbon is the strip of tools at the top of the Draw window, under "File" and "View". In its group called "Tools", click the pencil (a pencil picture, at the top left of that group). If it is already blue, it is already chosen.
- Draw something. Put the mouse on the blank page of the drawing area, hold the left button down and move the mouse to draw something: a sun, a house, your first name… Let go of the button to lift the pencil.
- Open the "File" menu. At the top left of the Draw window, under the title bar, click "File" (the first word, left of "View"): a menu drops down.
- Click "Save As". In the File menu, click "Save As" (the fourth line): a window called "Save as" opens.
- Choose "Pictures". In the "Save as" window, look at the column on its left (the list of places) and click "Pictures": that is the folder meant for photos and drawings.
- Name the drawing, then "Save". At the bottom of the window, click in the "File name" box and erase the suggested name. Then type a name for your drawing, for example "my-drawing.png", then click "Save" (bottom right of the window). The file is saved in Pictures.
- Close this window. You are done with this window, so close it: click the ✕ button at the top right corner of the "Draw" window (on its title bar, the strip at the top). The window disappears.
These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.
Practice it where nothing can break
SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
