Open a result and go back

Click a search result, read the page, then go back.

5 steps · about 3 minutes · practice it with SafePC Pro

Step by step

  1. Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
  2. Click "Browser". In the menu that opened, click the "Browser" tile (a square with a small picture and its name under it): the app opens in its own window.
  3. Do a search. Click in the address bar (the long white bar at the top of the Browser window, under the tab), type "cat" and press Enter. A list of search results appears.
  4. Click a result. Each result in the list has a small web address, a blue title and a short gray description. Click the blue title of the first result: the page opens in the same window.
  5. Go back. At the top left of the Browser window, the first button of the toolbar is an arrow pointing left (←, called "Back"). Click it: you are back on the list of results.

These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.

Practice it where nothing can break

SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
