Write in Notepad

Open Notepad, click in the page and type some text.

4 steps · about 2 minutes · practice it with SafePC Pro

Step by step

  1. Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
  2. Click "Notepad". In the menu that opened, click the "Notepad" tile (a square with a small picture and its name under it): the app opens in its own window.
  3. Click in the white page. The big white area of the Notepad window is the page. Click anywhere inside it: a thin blinking line appears. That is the cursor: the letters you press on the keyboard will appear there.
  4. Type a sentence on the keyboard. Now use the keys of the keyboard to type a sentence, for example "Hello everyone" (at least ten letters). The words appear on the page as you press the keys.

These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.

Practice it where nothing can break

SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
