Step by step

  1. Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
  2. Click "Browser". In the menu that opened, click the "Browser" tile (a square with a small picture and its name under it): the app opens in its own window.
  3. Go to . Click in the address bar at the top, type and press Enter. It is a practice bank website: made-up bank, fake money.
  4. Type the password. Click in the "Password" box and type the practice password: (it is also written on the page).
  5. Click "Sign in". Click the "Sign in" button (or press Enter).
  6. Open "Transfer". In the menu under the green bar, click "Transfer".
  7. Choose "Emily Carter". Open the "To" list and choose "Emily Carter".
  8. Type the amount. Click in "Amount" and type 25.
  9. Click "Review". Click "Review": the bank shows a summary before sending anything.
  10. Check, then "Confirm transfer". Check the name (Emily Carter) and the amount ($25.00), then click "Confirm transfer". Write down the confirmation number.
  11. Sign out. When you are done, always sign out: click "Sign out" at the top right of the page.
  12. Close this window. You are done with this window, so close it: click the ✕ button at the top right corner of the "Browser" window (on its title bar, the strip at the top). The window disappears.

These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.

Practice it where nothing can break

SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
