SafePC · First steps

See all apps

Find an app that is not pinned, in the alphabetical list.

4 steps · about 2 minutes · free to practice on SafePC

Step by step

  1. Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
  2. Click "All apps". The Start menu only shows a few apps (the pinned ones). To see every app, click the "All apps ›" button at the top right of the menu: the list of all the apps replaces the tiles.
  3. Click "Draw" in the list. The apps are in alphabetical order, with a letter heading before each group. Move down the list with the scroll wheel (or the touchpad) until you reach the letter D, then click "Draw" (a palette picture). Draw opens in a window.
  4. Close this window. You are done with this window, so close it: click the ✕ button at the top right corner of the "Draw" window (on its title bar, the strip at the top). The window disappears.

These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.

Practice it where nothing can break

SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again. This lesson is free.
