SafePC · App windows

Move and resize

Move a window by its title bar and change its size.

5 steps · about 2 minutes · practice it with SafePC Pro

Step by step

  1. Click the Start button! Look at the bottom of this practice computer: the dark strip there is its taskbar. In the middle of it, click the Start button (four blue squares). The main menu opens just above it. If you see two taskbars, use the one inside this page.
  2. Click "Calculator". In the menu that opened, click the "Calculator" tile (a square with a small picture and its name under it): the app opens in its own window.
  3. Move the window! Click the title bar of "Calculator" (the strip at the top of the window, where its name is), hold the mouse button down and drag the window somewhere else on the desktop, then let go of the button. The window stays where you dropped it.
  4. Make the window bigger! Put the mouse on the bottom right corner of the window: the pointer becomes a double arrow. Hold the mouse button down and pull the corner away from the window to make it bigger, then let go. The window keeps its new size.
  5. Close this window. You are done with this window, so close it: click the ✕ button at the top right corner of the "Calculator" window (on its title bar, the strip at the top). The window disappears.

These steps are written for SafePC, a pretend Windows-style computer in your web browser. On your own computer, the buttons and menus may look a little different, but the idea is the same.

Practice it where nothing can break

SafePC works like a real computer, but nothing you do goes anywhere. Try every button, make mistakes and start again.
